RECORDING
FAQ |
|
|
|
|
|
Answers to your most common recording issues... |
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
I
can't record anything. I just get silence when I listen
to my recordings. |
|
|
|
|
|
You can fix this in two ways - use a different Recording
Source, or download the Enhanced Sound Card Driver.
The Enhanced Sound Card Driver is available at www.replay-radio.com.
It requires less configuration, and supports more sound
cards, but on some PCs it may have certain side-effects.
If you choose not to use the Enhanced Sound Card Driver,
the most common reason a recording fails is that the Recording
Source is set improperly. To determine the best Recording
Source:
1. Select
a show, and click Edit Show.
2. Click
the Recordings Tab. The Recordings section appears.
3. Click
Test Recording Sources.
4. Once
the test noises stop, you will see the recommended source.
Use this source for all future recordings.
Another possibility:
With some sound cards, the Mute Sound While Recording
feature (under the Recording tab when editing a show)
may disable all sound when recording, causing pure silence.
If you have this checked, try unchecking it and see if
it makes a difference.
Occasionally, installing the latest drivers for your Sound
Card fixes recording problems. Here's how to update your
sound card drivers using Windows XP (other Windows versions
work similarly):
1.
Click Start, Settings, Control Panel, Sounds and Audio.
2. Click
the Hardware tab. The hardware dialog appears.
3. Select
your sound card, then click Properties. The Audio Properties
screen appears.
4.
Click Update Driver.
Finally, if you still have trouble, it may be something
specific to the Player (like Windows Media Player, Real
Player, etc.) you are using. |

My
recordings sound distorted. What can I do to improve the
quality? |
|
|
|
|
|
The Enhanced Sound
Card Driver will record what you hear on your PC's speakers
without distortion, but may not work on all PCs. If you
choose not to use the Enhanced Sound Card Driver, or if
you're recording from the Microphone or Line-In inputs,
try lowering the recording volume. Some sound cards or
microphones will make distorted recordings if the recording
volume is too high. |
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
The
recording volume is too low or too high - how can I adjust
it? |
|
|
|
|
|
You may need to
manually set the recording volume level in Windows as
follows:
1. Click
Start, Settings, Control Panel, and select Sounds and
Audio.
2. Click
the Audio tab.
3. Under
Sound Recording, click Volume.
4. Increase
or decrease the volume level for the recording source
you are using in Replay Radio.
Hint: If you don't see the Recording Source option you're
using, click Options, Properties, and make sure the all
the options are selected for display.
If you do this, make sure the Optimize Mixer Volume for
Recording option under Replay Radio's Settings, Sound
Mixer tab is UNCHECKED.
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
I
installed the Enhanced Sound Card Driver, but it doesn't
appear as an option. |
|
|
|
|
|
First of all, the
Enhanced Sound Card Driver option will appear as a Recording
Source selection if properly installed. You can see this
either in Quick Record, or when editing a scheduled show
(under the Recording tab).
When you install it, be sure to install it into the same
folder as Replay Radio, usually "c:\program files\replay
radio 5". Replay Radio looks for the file RRUserDLL.dll
in that folder. If it's not there, then the Enhanced Sound
Card Driver option won't be listed. |
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
I
can't record from Real Player. Other players work fine.
|
|
|
|
|
|
Real Player may
need to be adjusted so that it records properly as follows:
1.
Open Real Player, and click Tools, Preferences
from the menu.
2.
Click Hardware. The Preferences dialog appears
as shown.
Click Settings under the Sound Card Compatibility heading.
The Sound Card Compatibility dialog appears.
3. Make
sure Disable Direct Sound is checked.
4. Click
OK. |
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
Recording
from QuickTime or iTunes plays garbled. |
|
|
|
|
|
QuickTime and iTunes
often default to using Direct Sound, which leads to sound
distortion during both recording and playback when Replay
Radio is active. To correct this problem, you need to
tell QuickTime to use the Replay Radio driver as the default
playback device instead.
For QuickTime Version 6:
1. Make
sure QuickTime and iTunes are closed.
2. Open
QuickTime via Start, Programs, QuickTime, QuickTime Player.
3. Select
Edit, Preferences, QuickTime Preferences.
4. In the
dialog that appears, select Sound Out from the list at
the top.
5. Pick
waveOut: Windows Preferred Device.
6. Close
the settings window and you're done.
For QuickTime Version 4
and 5:
1. Click
Start, Settings, Control Panel, QuickTime.
2. In the
drop down list, select Wave Out, Windows Preferred Device.

|
|

I
can't record from WinAmp. |
|
|
|
|
|
In most cases, WinAmp
works fine with Replay Radio. The only potential incompatibility
is in using Direct Sound. To make WinAmp work with Replay
Radio you should do the following:
1. Start
WinAmp.
2. Right
click on the green dot in the upper right-hand corner.
3.
Select Options, Preferences.
4. If you're
using WinAmp version 5, choose Plug-Ins, Output. For version
2 or 3, select the Audio I/O tab.
5. Look at the Output plug-ins drop-down
list. If "NullSoft Direct Sound" is selected,
change it to "NullSoft WaveOut".
This should fix the problem. |

I
can't record from MusicMatch. |
|
|
|
|
|
MusicMatch needs
to be reconfigured to use the Default Sound Card Driver
when recording.
1. Open
MusicMatch
2. Click
Options, Settings.
3.
Click the Player tab.
4. Under
Output Control, make sure Default is selected.
5. Click
OK.

TUNING
FAQ |
|
|
|
|
|
Answers to your most common tuning issues... |
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
| |
I
can't get any station to tune. |
|
|
|
|
| |
The best way to fix 95% of all tuning issues is to
use change the tuning method under Settings. Try this
first:
1. Click
Settings, Tuning. The Tuning dialog appears.
2. Make
sure Tune by Opening Browser is selected.
3. Click
OK.
Here are the other common
problems associated with Tuning:
1. A firewall
program has blocked Replay Radio and/or replay Tuner.
Try configuring your firewall software to allow Replay
Radio and replay Tuner to access the Internet.
2. If some
stations tune, and others don't: Try changing the show's
tuner as follows: select the show, and click Edit Show.
Then click the Tuning tab and change the Tune With value
to Default, and click OK.
3. The URL
may be outdated. Try pasting the URL into your browser,
and see if tuning occurs.
4. You may
have outdated versions of Real Player or Windows Media
Player. Try downloading and updating to the latest versions
from these links. |

ZoneAlarm
is preventing Replay Radio from tuning when recording |
|
|
|
|
| |
Under ZoneAlarm's
Program Control Options, set the Automatic Lock to OFF.
ZoneAlarm is configured to lock internet activity after
a period of inactivity (the automatic lock), and this
effectively locks out Replay Radio from tuning. |

I
can't open Replay Player on my PC. |
|
|
|
|
| |
Replay Player requires Windows Media Player 7.0 or later
to run. Try installing the latest Windows Media Player.
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
| |
The
recorded show is hard to hear. |
|
|
|
|
| |
You may need to adjust the recording volume, or the
volume on your Media Player.
To adjust your recording volume: 1.
In Replay Radio, click Settings, Sound Mixer.
2. Select Optimize Mixer Volume for Recording.
This will automatically place the volume of your Windows
recording source at mid-range.
You can also manually set the recording volume:
1. Unselect Optimize Mixer Volume
for Recording (see above). 2.
Click Setup Windows Sound Mixer. 3.
Click the Audio tab. 4. Click
Volume under Recordings. 5.
Set the volume for the recording source you are using.
Try increasing the volume inside the Player you are using.
The recorded show did not appear.
This is likely a recording problem -- if no sound data
is detected, the recorded file won't save. |

How
do I make a recording bookmarkable on my iPod? |
|
|
|
|
| |
Want your recorded MP3 radio shows to be bookmarkable,
just like the Audible audio books? Here's how to do it:
(Courtesy of iPodLounge.com's forums) 1.
Convert the MP3 file to AAC a.
In iTunes, click on the top menu Edit > Preferences
and click on the "Importing." tab
b. At the “Import Using”
of the Importing Tab, drop down select ‘aac encoding’
c. Right click on the ‘Book
Name’ in iTunes d. Select
‘Convert Selection to AAC’ e.
Go do something else or begin listening to the book. The
conversion of a typical length book will take about an
hour and a half. Do not interrupt this process. Your book
name will continue to show and if you click to listen,
it will remove the progress indication from the center
top window of iTunes. You can go back to view the count-down
progress by clicking on the > of that window.
2. Rename the file a.
After the conversion is complete, right click on the ‘Book
Name’ in iTunes Library. Select ‘Show Songs
File’ b. Right click
the ‘Book Name.m4a’ file and select ‘rename’
c. replace the m4a extension
with M4B (Space after B to be safe) to rename the merged
and converted file. 3. Remove
the old file from the library a.
Highlight the old file, select ‘Clear,’ to
remove the resulting file from the iTunes library (be
absolutely certain, when prompted, to click on ‘no’
to send to recycle bin so that you do not actually delete
it from your hard drive. 4.
Add the new M4B file to iTunes a.
Find the new file in C:\Documents and Settings\Default\My
Documents\My Music\iTunes\iTunes Music\Book Name Be sure
to go all the way down to the actual file. b.
Click on the file twice to place it in iTunes.
If this does not work, use two windows to drag and drop
the book name.M4B file to Library line in iTunes.
5. Check that you have deleted
all the extra files you created in this process. They
are large. 6. You may want
to change the importing back to mp3 encoding so that the
next time you rip a song, you will already be there.

CD
BURNING GUIDE |
|
|
|
|
| |
Answers to the most common questions CD Burning
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
| |
Why
doesn't my audio CD play in my home or car CD Player? |
|
|
|
|
| |
CD Burning is not always an exact science, especially
when equipment older than 2 years is involved. Here are
some hints for ensuring your audio CDs created by Replay
Radio are able to play in your CD player. 1.
Use CD-R discs, and not CD-RW discs. Older CD Players
may have a hard time reading CD-RW discs. 2.
Ensure you have set up the Replay Radio CD Burner with
the proper speed setting. Settings a speed higher than
the disc is rated for may cause an unreadable CD to be
created. Select Settings, Setup CD Burner in the Replay
Radio software to configure your CD. If the disc says
"4x", then record at 4x, or slower. Some media
works better at 1x, 2x, or 4x than it does at other speeds.
You may find that slowing down or speeding up the recorder
helps. 3. Ensure your CD Burner
is supported by Replay Radio (see below). 4.
Not all players get along with all brands of CD-R media.
You need to find a combination of recorder, media, and
player that get along. Sometimes, using a different brand
of media or a different CD player may produce better results.

|
|
| |
What's
the difference between CD-R and CD-RW? |
|
|
|
|
| |
CD-R is short for "CD-Recordable". Recordable
CDs are WORM (Write Once, Read Multiple) media that work
just like standard CDs. The advantage of CD-R over other
types of optical media is that you can use the discs with
a standard CD player. The disadvantage is that you can't
reuse a disc.
A related technology called CD-Rewritable (CD-RW) allows
you to erase discs and reuse them, but the CD-RW media
doesn't work in all players. CD-Rewritable drives are
able to write both CD-R and CD-RW discs. |

AIN (Auto-Insert Notification) - Be aware
that other CD/DVD aware applications may change the AIN
settings burning issues. Please be aware of this issue.
If AIN is turned on in the target system, audio and data
discs may not close properly, at all, or possible hang
the system. It is very important to turn this off. The
settings listed below will disable AIN.
Windows 95/98/ME Settings: 1)
Open 'Control Panel' and click on 'System'.
2) Select 'Device Manager' tab.
3) Click on the CD-Rom
icon 4) For every CD/DVD
device in the list, do the following:
Select the Device.
Select 'Settings'.
Enable 'Disconnect'.
Enable 'Sync Data Transfer'.
Disable 'Auto Insert Notification'.
Enable 'DMA' (if available).
Click on 'OK'. 5)
Repeat #4 for each device. 6)
Reboot the system for settings to take effect.
Windows NT4/2000/XP Settings:
Windows NT4 must have Service Pack 6 installed.
Set the following registry value to disable Auto-Insert
Notification using RegEdit.exe:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/Services/Cdrom/Autorun=0
It is recommended to have updated IDE/ATAPI drivers, especially
if you are using
the SCSI Pass-Through option instead of ASPI. Using SCSI
Pass-Through is the default setting for Windows NT4/XP/2000
systems.
It may be necessary to have security rights to use the
CD/DVD drives. To give CD
rights to a non-administrative user, do the following:
1) Open 'Control Panel' and
click on 'Administrative Tools'. 2)
Double click on 'Local Security Policy'. 3)
Double click on 'Security Options'. 4)
Double click on 'Restrict CD-ROM access to locally logged-on
users only'. 5) Click
on Enabled. NOTE: CD/DVD
access is not currently possible for users with Non-Administrative
rights for Windows XP Home Operating System. Microsoft
does not provide a mechanism to provide access to this
type of access. This limitation does not apply to the
Windows XP Professional Operating System.
